Assistant Commandant (AC), equivalent to Assistant Commissioner of Police (ACP) / Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) is a Group-A Gazetted Officer rank in the Central Armed Police Forces of India. which includes Border Security Force (BSF), Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF), Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Indo-Tibetan Border Police (ITBP) and Sashastra Seema Bal (SSB).
ACs in Central Armed Police Forces are appointed directly through UPSC selection process and are called Directly Appointed Gazetted Officers (DAGO). These officers can reach up to the ranks of IG and ADG in their own organisations without having conferred to the Indian Police Service.
Apart from performing various decision making and supervisory functions, similar to any other Group ‘A’ service, the executive officers of the CAPF perform several other managerial functions peculiar to the service, besides leading the troops in the field. Their role and performance, therefore, assumes a great significance due to the special features of an emergency Force which is pressed in aid to civil power to perform multiple roles in extremely difficult situations
Age Eligibility: Minimum 20 years and Maximum 25 years as on 1st August of the exam year (Certain categories of persons including departmental candidates are eligible for age relaxation)
Academic Eligibility: A degree from a recognised University or equivalent(Candidates appearing in the degree exam are allowed to appear at the exam but are required to submit proof of passing alongwith the Detailed Application Forms which are to be submitted after qualifying the written test, medical standards test and Physical Efficiency Tests (PET))
Physical Standards Eligibility: You need to have minimum Physical Standards as given in the notification
Female candidates can not apply for BSF and ITBP

There is negative marking in Objective Type Question Paper. Physical and medical standards test will be conducted only for those candidates who qualify the written examination. Interview for personal test will be of 200 marks
